TDEE, or total daily energy expenditure, is the total energy a person uses in a day. It varies daily and is estimated using basal metabolic rate (BMR), activity level, and the thermic effect of food.
- Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR): Energy used at rest to maintain vital organs.
- Activity Level: Energy used during all activities, including exercise and daily tasks.
- Thermic Effect of Food: Energy required to process food, estimated around 10% of food intake but varies by food type.
TDEE CALCULATOR
How is TDEE calculated?
TDEE is estimated by calculating BMR using equations like Mifflin St-Jeor, Harris-Benedict, or Katch-McArdle, which consider age, gender, height, and weight. BMR is then multiplied by an activity level factor. The thermic effect of food may be included but has a smaller impact.
