Every activity you do, even while sleeping, consumes energy. The Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) Calculator estimates the calories you burn at rest over a day, taking into account your age, weight, height, and activity level.
BMR CALCULATOR
What’s the difference between BMR and TDEE?
While BMR estimates the minimum calories your body needs for basic functions, Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) measures the total calories you burn each day, including physical activity.
Mifflin-St Jeor Equation
This equation is considered one of the most accurate methods for estimating BMR and is widely used. Here’s how the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation is applied:>
- For Men: BMR=88.362+(13.397×weight in kg)+(4.799×height in cm)−(5.677×age in years)
- For Women: BMR=447.593+(9.247×weight in kg)+(3.098×height in cm)−(4.330×age in years)
The TDEE is then calculated using the formula: TDEE = BMR × Activity Level
Activity Level:
- Sedentary (little or no exercise): 1.2
- Lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week): 1.375
- Moderately active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week): 1.55
- Very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week): 1.725
- Super active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job): 1.9
In summary,
The BMR is calculated using the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation, which takes into account the user’s weight, height, age, and gender. The TDEE is then calculated by multiplying the BMR by an activity level factor based on the user’s reported activity level.
